Roof painting gives a faded tile, terracotta or Colorbond roof a new protective coating and colour. Done properly, it’s never just paint. The roof is cleaned, repaired and repointed first, then sealed and given two colour coats. Eminent Roofing & Restoration paints roofs across Melbourne’s south-east as a Dulux Acratex Registered Roof Applicator. You choose between two coating brands, Dulux or Industrial Roof Coatings, and every job comes with a free itemised quote and a 10-year workmanship warranty.
What Roof Painting Involves
- Inspection and quote. We get on the roof, check every tile and the ridge capping, and give you an itemised written quote.
- High-pressure clean. Moss, lichen, dirt and loose old coating come off, so the new coating bonds to the tile.
- Repairs. Cracked tiles are replaced, and ridge caps are rebedded and repointed where they need it.
- Primer or sealer. Concrete tiles get a sealer and terracotta gets a terracotta primer, so the colour coats have something to grip. Metal roofs skip this step, because we use a self-priming metal roof paint.
- Two colour coats. In your choice of Dulux or Industrial Roof Coatings, applied to the manufacturer’s specification.
- Clean-up and photos. The site is left clean, and you get before-and-after photos of the work.

Roof Painting or a Full Restoration?
If the tiles and ridge capping are sound and the coating has simply worn out, painting may be all the roof needs. If there are cracked tiles, failed pointing or leaks, the roof needs a full restoration, and painting is the last stage of it. We’ll tell you which one your roof needs after the inspection. See our roof restoration page for the full process.
Choosing a Colour
You can keep your roof’s current colour or change it. Lighter colours reflect more summer heat, and darker colours hide weathering. We’ll show you the colour range and photos of real roofs we’ve painted, so you can see the colour in daylight, not just on a chart. Try the roof colour tool on our homepage to preview colours on a house like yours.
Painting Colorbond and Metal Roofs
Yes, we paint Colorbond and other metal roofs. Loose or rusted screws are replaced, laps and flashings are sealed, and surface rust is treated so it can’t spread under the new paint. The roof is then finished with a self-priming metal roof paint, so there’s no separate primer coat. If sheets are rusted through, we replace those sheets before painting.
What Roof Painting Costs
As a guide, painting a single-storey roof costs $2,625 to $6,300 in Melbourne, about $4,200 for a typical job. The final price depends on roof size, storeys, pitch, how many tiles need replacing and how much pointing has failed. Your quote is fixed and itemised after a free inspection. There’s no deposit: you pay 50% at the halfway point and 50% on completion.
Warranty
Every roof we paint carries a 10-year workmanship warranty in writing. If you choose Dulux, the coating also carries a product warranty of up to 15 years.

Roof Painting Questions
How long does roof painting take?
A single-storey roof takes 2 to 4 days on site, depending on the work and the weather.
Can you paint a roof in winter?
Coatings need dry weather and the right temperature to cure, so we book around the forecast and won’t paint if rain is due.
Do I need to be home?
No. We need access to the roof and an outside tap, and we’ll send you photos of each stage.
Will painting fix a leak?
Not on its own. Leaks come from cracked tiles, failed pointing or flashings, which we fix before any coating goes on.
